Project Portfolio

S.T.A.T.E. Testing has been blessed to be involved in many major and innovative projects. Our project portfolio consists of work performed on much of the Chicagoland expressway system, the Illinois Tollway system, and O’Hare International Airport. Some of our most innovative projects included those associated with the green movement including GTR, FRAP and Warm-mix asphalt.

Green Alley

In 2006, S.T.A.T.E. Testing began working with CDOT on their award-winning Green Alley Program. We are proud to be a member of their Green Alley team. Our laboratory staff researched, specified, and designed the first pervious concrete and asphalt mixes. These pavements started a green phenomenon. Pervious pavements include 20+% air voids, allowing storm water to drain through the pavement, recharging the groundwater while reducing storm water collection and treatment.

The HMA mix is a polymer-modified, open-graded mix, made with ground-tire rubber asphalt cement. This is the first known pervious HMA mix in Illinois.

The first PCC Green Alley in Chicago was constructed with mix from a mobile mixer. Later mixes have been successfully produced with normal transit mixing trucks. The PCC mixes are made with "white" cement and carbonate aggregate, giving them a high albedo (light reflective) quality.
